Hidden Parts is a podcast about your inner voices that shape how you live, work and lead. You know, the mental chatter that either stops you in your tracks with a terrifying voice that says YOU'LL NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING *or* gives you so much oxytocin you feel like you want to break out in the Lionel Richie All Night Long dance with everyone at the city bus stop?
Those inner gremlins that cause you to feel guilt and shame when you take a day off from work or go away from your kids, and those lovely kick ass and take names parts that help you get that big assignment done? Or that book written? Or that (insert exciting big idea here) happen?
The podcast is about all of this mental chatter, why it shows up and what to do when it gets loud. Each episode shares stories, insights and actionable ways to befriend your inner world and separate the noise from the wisdom.
I created this podcast because I wanted to help more big thinkers, creative dreamers and innovative change-makers understand how to build an inner foundation that takes their ideas farther, gets them where they want to go and helps them do what the world needs them to do right now.
As we're half-swimming, half-choking in this steaming pile of soup that is our world right now, and creating anything with heart feels harder and harder. The horizon to get there feels farther and farther away, and so any action we could take feels insignificant. We feel meaningless. And so there is this crisis of emotional intelligence, or being able to recognize and respond to our own and others' emotions. And we need to be able to do this so we don’t get stuck in inaction. We need to feel motivated.
Hidden Parts' aim is to give you the tools to understand how to do this for yourself with a coaching method called parts work, a neuroscience-based approach to understanding the different voices in your head that hold you back or propel you forward so that you may feel more motivated to get the eff up and make something meaningful. So you *feel* meaningful.
The podcast is a grab bag of episodes:
↱ Some are recorded coaching sessions where I help clients like Cody get unstuck in their book editing process, and Francesca step forward as a leader on her product design team.
↱ Some are mini parts work exercises to help you know which parts of yourself are sitting at your mental board room table. Which parts are leaning in and trying to fix everything? Which parts are pounding on the table? Which parts are standing in the corner smoking a cigarette? Which parts are waiting outside, hoping to be heard?
↱ All episodes are the much needed empathy-party, helping you know you are not alone in this way of being, that we all have guilty voices holding us back, mean as hell voices telling us we're worthless, and even quieter voices telling us we have permission to be our weird selves and to make something important. To connect. To love, deeply.
